Phillips, a former third-round pick, suffered the injury during Thursday’s practice. It’s a tough blow to Kevin Stefanski’s defense since the LSU product was expected to play a bigger role this upcoming season. As a rookie, Phillips had 25 total tackles in nine games.
Unfortunately for the Browns, Phillips wasn’t the only linebacker who went down with an injury this week. Sione Takitaki is dealing with a hamstring injury and his status is unknown at this time.
With so much uncertainty surrounding its linebacker room right now, Cleveland has decided to add some insurance this Friday.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Browns have signed linebacker Willie Harvey Jr. to their roster.
With a few LB injuries, the #Browns have re-signed FA LB Willie Harvey Jr., who was with the team two years ago.

Harvey, 25, signed with the Browns in 2019 as an undrafted free agent. He was eventually released by the team in 2020.
The New England Patriots recently brought in Harvey for a workout, so there were other teams interested in his services.
It’s too early to tell if Harvey will have a sizable role on defense for the Browns this season. The most likely scenario is that he provides the team an extra body during training camp.
