An NFL insider suggested a first-year head coach could be on the chopping block before the end of the 2019 regular season.
According to a recent report from Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report, Cleveland Browns coach Freddie Kitchens might not last the season.
Freeman said multiple team officials believe general manager John Dorsey could move on from Kitchens if the team continues to struggle. At 2-6 on the season, there isn’t much room for optimism.
Even if the Browns turn it around at win a few more games, Kitchens could still be fired at the end of the year.
Here’s more from the report:
The increasing belief of some team officials is that Kitchens could be fired before the end of the season. If he does make it that far, two NFC front-office sources stated, he’ll be dismissed at the end of the season.
Cleveland entered the season as one of the most hyped teams in the league. After a strong finish to the 2018 season and the addition of Odell Beckham Jr., the Browns were expected to compete for a playoff spot.
However, as it stands now, the Browns are just hoping to avoid a top-five pick in next year’s NFL draft.
