Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback Denzel Ward left tonight’s preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a back injury. He was soon declared out for the remainder of the night.
Browns fans had to be worried about their first-round pick. However, it looks like they dodged a bullet.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Ward’s injury “doesn’t appear to be serious” based off initial tests.
Sounded like, based on initial tests, that Denzel Ward exited as a precaution. Doesn’t sound like a major deal. https://t.co/qOwZbKBOq8

Ward injured himself on this play early in the first quarter. He stayed down on the ground for several minutes, but was eventually able to walk off under his own power.

Ward was the No. 4 pick of the 2018 draft out of Ohio State. He is being counted on to be a major contributor right away.
However, we wouldn’t’ be surprised if this was the end of his preseason action. Cleveland has only one game left before the regular season, and there’s no sense in risking further injury.
Expect them to be cautious with Ward.
