When you’re an athlete going through a rough patch, you’ll do anything to get yourself going again. Just take a look at Baker Mayfield today.
Mayfield can’t change up his team’s porous offensive line and the fact its head coach is in over his head. But he can potentially alter his shaky decision making and can definitely change his facial hair.
The latter has been done. Mayfield debuted a fu manchu when he took the field today in Denver for warm-ups.
The Browns’ own official Twitter account promoted their franchise quarterback’s new look.

Will changing his appearance have any tangibly positive effect on Mayfield? We’ll have to wait and see, but if this helped him feel more mentally ready, it can’t hurt.
Mayfield’s season-long frustrations came to a head this week when he clashed with reporter Tony Grossi during a media session. Annoyed by a query from Grossi, Mayfield called it “the dumbest question I’ve ever heard” and stormed off.
At 2-5, Cleveland is clinging to its playoff lives. Fortunately, the difficulty of the schedule drops off significantly over the last nine games of the season.
However, the Browns have virtually no margin for error. They need to win at least seven of their last nine games to have a shot at the postseason, starting with this afternoon in Denver.
