Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner has missed the last two games with a high-ankle sprain, but the team appears encouraged about his status this weekend.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters today that he is hoping to have his leading rusher back for this weekend's pivotal game against the New Orleans Saints. Pittsburgh is in a battle with the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC North title.
The Steelers are aiming to have Conner on the field participating in tomorrow's practice to some degree.
If Conner can't go again this week, Jaylen Samuels and Stevan Ridley will continue to split carries. Samuels rushed for 142 yards in Sunday's win over the New England Patriots.
Conner has rushed for 909 yards and 12 touchdowns this season while also hauling in 52 receptions for 467 yards and a score.
Pittsburgh and New Orleans will kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday from the Superdome.
CBS will broadcast the game nationally.
