The Pittsburgh Steelers already boast some of the NFL’s top pass rushers with TJ Watt and Stephon Tuitt combining for 26.0 sacks in 2020. But after letting linebacker Bud Dupree walk in free agency, they could be adding a replacement.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Steelers are hosting free agent pass rusher Melvin Ingram for a visit today. Ingram is a versatile pass rusher who can play defensive end and outside linebacker. He could be a superb bookend pass rusher for either Watt or Tuitt.
In nine NFL seasons, Ingram has 49.0 sacks in 116 games. The bulk of that production came between the 2015 and 2019 seasons.
Between 2015 and 2019, Ingram had 43.0 sacks in 77 games with two double-digit sack seasons. He made three Pro Bowls in that span.
But after injuries limited him to just seven games in 2020, the Chargers chose not to re-sign him when his contract expired this offseason.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a 12-4 season that saw them rank third in total defense. It was their best defense in nearly a decade.
After falling short in the playoffs, the Steeler largely prioritized their offense in the offseason. They signed only a handful of defensive free agents and didn’t go defense in the draft until the fourth round.
But perhaps their most notable move was letting linebacker Bud Dupree go in free agency. And they haven’t exactly replaced him. Perhaps Melvin Ingram will be the man who fills the void.
Would Ingram be a good fit on this Steelers roster, or should Pittsburgh avoid signing him?
