It was an abysmal season for the Houston Texans, and star defensive end JJ Watt couldn't help but apologize to quarterback Deshaun Watson because of it.

The Texans wrapped up their season this past weekend with a 41-38 defeat at the hands of the AFC South champion Tennessee Titans. The loss dropped Houston to 4-12 on the year.

With players like Watson and Watt, the Texans should be a playoff contender, but here we are. Watt even admitted as much following Houston's season finale on Sunday.

Following the Texans' loss to the Titans, Watt met with Watson as they walked off the field. The superstar defensive end apologized to Watson for not winning more games after their season finale.

Check out Watt's postgame message for Watson below.

This is special. And JJ Watt's right.

The Texans should be so much better than they were this season. Deshaun Watson is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but he doesn't have much to show for it.

Fortunately, it's going to be a new era for the Houston Texans this year. Bill O'Brien was shown the door earlier this season, and now the Texans are looking for a new head coach.

Plenty of intriguing candidates are available. The biggest priority will be hiring a coach that centers the offense around Watson, offering him a dynamic passing attack.

Watt, meanwhile, is rumored to have interest in being traded. But his postgame message to Watson certainly makes it seem he'll return for another year.
