Indianapolis Colts Sign First-Round Pick Malik Hooker

On Thursday, first-round selection Malik Hooker signed his rookie contract with the Indianapolis Colts.

Former Ohio State safety Malik Hooker signed his inked his rookie contract on Thursday with the Indianapolis Colts, which selected him No. 15 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.

According to spotrac.com, the four-year deal is worth a projected $12,599,908 and includes a $7,303,570 signing bonus.

Hooker was a beast for the Buckeyes during the 2016 season, and the Colts are expecting big things from the rookie in his first season, though he is currently sidelined for a few more weeks following a January surgery (hip and labrum). He should be back in time for training camp.

In the meantime, defensive coordinator Ted Monachino wants Hooker to focus on the mental aspects of the game. From Colts.com:

"What we can expect mentally is (him) to dive both feet in, going full speed with the install and seeing how far down the road he can get with film study and becoming a better pro,” Monachino told Colts.com. "Once he does start to come out and compete on the field, we can expect great things out of Malik. He’s got some instincts that a lot of players don’t and that’s what we are looking for. That’s one of his main traits as a deep, range safety. He understands angles. He has great speed and great ball skills.”

The Colts kick off the 2017 regular season on September 10 with a match-up against the Los Angeles Rams.
