The Jacksonville Jaguars are under new leadership heading into the 2021 season, both on the sidelines and on the field.
On Wednesday, Jags head coach Urban Meyer announced the seven captains for his first year with the organization. Headlining this list is No. 1 overall rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
The list also includes defensive end/linebacker Josh Allen, cornerback Shaq Griffin, linebacker Myles Jack, safety Rayshawn Jenkins, center Brandon Linder and wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr.

Lawrence: The former Clemson standout is entering the league as one of the most highly-touted quarterback prospects of all-time. As just a 21-year-old rookie, an intense weight has been placed on Lawrence’s shoulders since the moment he was selected with the first pick in the 2021 draft. Expected to have an immediate impact on last year’s league-worst squad, that pressure only builds as a team captain.
Allen: The league’s other “Josh Allen” is heading into his third NFL season with the Jaguars. After he was selected with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2019 draft, the star DE got off to a red-hot start in his first season with Jacksonville — logging 10.5 sacks and a Pro-Bowl selection. After missing eight games with a knee injury in 2020, Allen will look to bounce back as a team leader in 2021.
Griffin: This former Seattle Seahawk is heading into his first year with the Jags organization, but Meyer clearly has already recognized his veteran leadership. Jacksonville signed Griffin on a three-year, $44.5 million contract earlier this offseason — marking one of the team’s biggest free-agent pickups of the year.
Jack: This longtime starting linebacker has been with the Jaguars’ organization for the past five seasons. Notching time in 73 games for Jacksonville, there’s no question that Jack is a veteran leader for the team.
Jenkins: Coming off four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, Jenkins is heading into his first season with the Jags. The 27-year-old safety signed a four-year, $35 million deal with the team earlier this offseason.
Linder: As a seven-year offensive lineman for the Jags, Linder has spent more time with the team than any other player on this captain squad. After starting his career at right guard, the former third-round pick moved to his center position in 2016.
Jones: While this is his first year with the Jaguars, Jones is the most-seasoned captain on the squad with eight years of NFL experience. In his fifth season with the Detroit Lions last year, the talented wideout logged 978 yards and nine touchdowns. He signed a two-year, $14.5 million deal with Jacksonville earlier this offseason.
