NFL Superstar Accused Of Sexual Assault, Transmitting An STD

Jacksonville Jaguars' EverBank Field.

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Marcell Dareus is being accused of sexual assault, and transmitting a sexually transmitted disease, by an unnamed Texas woman.

The woman says that she was given herpes by Dareus after going on a date with him. She accuses him of having sex with her at a hotel while she was unconscious.

The two went on to have sex multiple times after that first night. She was diagnosed with herpes after the fact. From News4Jax:

According to a copy of a civil complaint filed July 6 in Duval County, the unidentified woman accuses Dareus, 28, of having sex with her while she was unconscious and without disclosing what she believes was herpes. The lawsuit seeks a jury trial and damages in excess of $15,000.

The complaint states Dareus and his accuser went on a date in Houston April 7 that ended with them spending the night together at a hotel. It says that when the woman woke up in pain the next day, she could not recall what happened the night before, but Dareus told her they had sex.

It goes on to say that Dareus saw the woman the following two days and the pair had sex on multiple occasions. Later the same week, the complaint argues, the woman came down with symptoms of herpes and went to see a doctor, who diagnosed her with the disease.

It is unclear if criminal charges have been made against Marcell Dareus.

The lawyers representing the accuser released a statement stating that they did not know if she had filed criminal complaints in either Florida, where Dareus plays football, or in Texas, where the alleged incident took place.

Dareus is also facing a complaint from a separate woman, who claims that she was assaulted by the NFL player in Tampa. He is set to appear in court in August for a motion to dismiss the case.
