Derrick Henry's NFL Number Change Honors Late Former Alabama Teammate

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry number change honors one of his former Alabama teammates.

Derrick Henry wore No. 2 at Alabama and for his first few preseason games in the NFL. But when the Tennessee Titans running back takes the field next Sunday to kickoff the regular season, he will have new digits on his uniform.

On Friday, Henry announced he will wear No. 22 with the Titans, in honor of his late former Alabama teammate, Altee Tenpenny.

According to the caption on Henry's Instagram photo, Tenpenny, who wore No. 28 at Alabama, always said he'd wear No. 22 if he got to the pros.

Tenpenny and Henry enrolled together at Alabama in 2013, but the former only spent two seasons with the Tide before transferring. He died in a car crash last fall.

Henry had to change his number anyway, as NFL running backs can only wear Nos 20-49. Why not make it a meaningful switch?
