Earlier this offseason, two-time Pro-Bowl running back Melvin Gordon was reportedly in free-agent talks with the Baltimore Ravens, per NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
Gordon, who just finished his two-year, $16 million contract with the Denver Broncos, had a relatively quiet free agency market. However, the Ravens were reportedly in the mix - up until tonight.
Late Tuesday night, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Gordon is re-signing with the Broncos. "Breaking: FA RB Melvin Gordon is re-signing with the #Broncos, per source," Schultz said on Twitter.
"A 2x Pro Bowler w/the #Chargers, Gordon -- who just turned 29 -- tallied 1,904 yards and 20 TDs his last two seasons, both with Denver. (Melvin also visited the #Ravens.) Huge get for Russell Wilson."
Starting 16 games for the Broncos in 2021, Gordon logged 918 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He split time with rookie running back Javonte Williams, who was expected to take over heading into 2022.
Those in the fantasy football world were hoping Gordon would go elsewhere to open the door for Williams. However, it certainly seems like the Broncos would rather have the duo back together again next season.
