Late Tuesday night, the Denver Broncos secured one of their positions heading into the 2022 NFL Draft on Thursday.

The team reportedly signed veteran running back Melvin Gordon to a new contract. According to a report from NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, it's a one-year deal for $5 million.

"RB Melvin Gordon is re-signing with Denver, as the two sides have agreed to terms on a 1-year deal worth up to $5M, source said," Rapoport said late Tuesday night. "A key move before the draft."

Of course, some fantasy football fans weren't thrilled with the news. They all wanted to see what second-year running back Javonte Williams could do without Gordon on the roster.

"Welp… this sucks. I thought Williams had THE RB1 potential but this knocks him out of being an RB1 for me. All will depend on cost but I like him more as an RB2," one person said.

NFL Network insider James Palmer noted that new Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett likes to have two quality running backs. "With Javonte Williams expected to take a significant jump in carries and production in year two, Nathaniel Hackett still prefers to have two backs for his offense," Palmer said. "Also this fills a hole that needed to be addressed in the draft."

Starting 16 games for the Broncos in 2021, Gordon logged 918 yards and eight touchdowns last season.
