On Thursday afternoon, the Los Angeles Rams cut star running back Todd Gurley. The move added Gurley to a solid group of free agent running backs, including Melvin Gordon.
Unlike Gordon, however, Gurley quickly found a landing spot. He signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons for $5 million. Just a few hours after watching Gurley sign a new deal, Gordon came off the market as well.
After sitting out to being the 2019 season, Gordon hoped for a new contract from the Los Angeles Chargers. The team didn't bite, meaning Gordon was destined for free agency after the season ended.
A few days into free agency, Gordon appears to have found a new home. According to NFL reporter Stephen Watson, the Denver Broncos are close to a deal with the star running back.
Here's the news from Watson.
It's an interesting landing spot for Gordon. Denver already has two solid running backs on the roster in Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman.
However, it's clear the Broncos wanted to upgrade at the position by adding a veteran back.
Lindsay and Gordon can form a great duo like Gordon and Austin Ekeler did for the Chargers over the past few years.
An official announcement should come soon.
