Instead of shipping A.J. Green to a contender before the trade deadline, the Cincinnati Bengals decided to hold on to their star wideout.

Green has missed the past few months due to an ankle injury that he suffered in training camp. Cincinnati has struggled mightily without its best playmaker, losing the first eight games of the season.

Fortunately for the Bengals, it appears help is on the way.

Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic interviewed Green to discuss his future with the franchise and when he plans to return.

According to A.J. Green, the plan is for him to play in Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens. This means he'll have roughly two weeks to get ready for that AFC showdown.

His return to the gridiron would give the Bengals a huge boost on offense.

In addition to offering an update on his injury status, the former first-round pick revealed that he wants to remain in Cincinnati for the long haul. However, Green would prefer if the team doesn't use the franchise tag on him. Cincinnati would benefit greatly from having Green on the field next Sunday, especially since Ryan Finley will make his first start at quarterback. We'll know more about Green's status next week when the Bengals release their injury report. [

Just got done with an interview with A.J. Green. A lot to unpack (and that’s coming).

Basics:

- He’s ready to play. Aiming for Baltimore

- Ready to ball out and this team wouldn’t be 0-8 with him healthy

- Understands biz of AD decision

- Does NOT want to be franchised
