An emotional Andrew Luck shockingly announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 29 on Saturday night.

Luck, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, said this was the hardest decision of his life, though it was the right one.

"I've been stuck in this process," Luck said. "I haven't been able to live the life I want to live. It's taken the joy out of this game ... the only way forward for me is to remove myself from football.

"This is not an easy decision. It's the hardest decision of my life. But it is the right decision for me.''

Luck was very emotional during the press conference and had to stop and gather himself multiple times.

Photos of Luck on the verge of tears are heartbreaking.

Luck, who's battled several injuries over the course of his career, says he's still hurting.

"I'm in pain; I'm still in pain," he said. "It's been four years of this pain, rehab cycle. It's a myriad of issues -- calf strain, posterior ankle impingement, high ankle sprain. Part of my journey going forward will be figuring out how to feel better.''

Hopefully Luck will start to feel better soon. The NFL will miss him.
