Baker Mayfield Leads Cleveland Browns To Win Over Jets

A closeup of Baker Mayfield in a Cleveland Browns headband.

Baker Mayfield may not have started Thursday night's contest as the Cleveland Browns quarterback, but by the end of the game he likely cemented his status as the team's starting quarterback moving forward. Tyrod Taylor struggled to get anything going in the first half, albeit with shaky offensive line play.

After Taylor went down with a concussion in the first half, Mayfield came in to lead the Browns to a field goal. Baker's arrival sparked the Browns who battled back from a 14-0 deficit to tie the New York Jets.

Mayfield eventually led the team to a 21-17 lead late in the fourth quarter. Carlos Hyde ran in for his second touchdown of the game.

Check it out.

It's a feel good story for the running back who showed up to tonight's game late after traveling from the hospital. Hyde is expecting the birth of his son tonight - and it just so happens to be his birthday as well.

Mayfield was drafted to lead the Browns to the promised land and after tonight's performance, there won't be any questions as to who will start at quarterback moving forward.

Mayfield finished 17-of-23 for 201 yards through the air in just over one half of play en route to a 21-17 win.

Browns fans finally have something to look forward to as the Bud Light coolers around Cleveland open with free beer. Up next for Cleveland is a trip to play the Oakland Raiders.
