The Cleveland Browns’ signing of talented but troubled running back Kareem Hunt made plenty of headlines this offseason. Hunt was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs last season after video surfaced of him in an altercation with a woman at a hotel.
In the video, Hunt is shown allegedly attacking, kicking and shoving the woman. The NFL suspended him for the first eight games of the upcoming season due to a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.
Today, Hunt’s new quarterback Baker Mayfield was asked about the 23-year-old running back. He told reporters he consulted Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce about Hunt.
Both vouched for him as a teammate.
Now, this is all well and good. We wouldn’t doubt that Hunt is a fine teammate on and off the field.
However, that doesn’t take away from his past issues. There are still plenty of people who will be outraged that he is back on the field this fall.
As we know though, if Hunt performs well, the Browns’ gamble will have been worth it for them, regardless of the outside backlash.
