A longtime NFL player and his wife were found dead in their home earlier this week. The bodies of Barry Bennett and his wife, Carol, were found inside their Minnesota home.

Police are reportedly searching for their 22-year-old son.

According to a report from The Pioneer Press, a concerned friend phoned police stating Bennett hadn't returned his phone calls or text messages.

The Todd County sheriff's office found Bennett, 63 and Carol, 63, who both died under "suspicious circumstances."

Here's more from the report:

In the course of the investigation, authorities identified the 22-year-old suspect as Dylan John Bennett, the couple’s son. Dylan Bennett was living at the home at the time.

Investigators believe the younger Bennett may have fled the state.

Todd County Sheriff Steve Och issued a statement about the incident: "Based on information gathered during the investigation, it is determined that there is no threat to public safety at this time."

Bennett was an 11-year NFL veteran. He played for the New Orleans Saints and New York Jets for the majority of his career before landing with the Minnesota Vikings for one season.

A star at Concordia College, the Saints selected Bennett in the third round of the 1978 NFL draft.
