The Buffalo Bills will play without a key member of their offense for the foreseeable future.
Head coach Sean McDermott told reporters Monday that Dawson Knox is undergoing wrist surgery. The injury has bothered the tight end since Buffalo's Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It's unclear how much time Knox will miss.
After scoring nine touchdowns in 2021, Knox earned his first Pro Bowl invite last season with 517 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games. The former third-round pick has also registered five touchdowns in Buffalo's last three postseason runs.
However, the 26-year-old hasn't made a significant impact as a pass-catcher this season. Knox secured 15 of 28 targets for 102 yards and a touchdown through seven games for the Bills.
He tallied 10 yards and a two-point conversion in Sunday's 29-25 loss to the New England Patriots.
While Knox has played more snaps, rookie Dalton Kincaid has eaten into his receiving role. The first-round pick set career highs with eight receptions and 75 yards on Sunday, giving him 193 yards on 27 targets this season.
Kincaid could now draw more attention from Josh Allen as a primary target beyond star wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
The Bills are sixth in total offense, and only the San Francisco 49ers have a higher point differential. They're nevertheless a disappointing 4-3, and the New York Giants came one yard away from handing them another loss in Week 6.
Buffalo has less time to lick its wounds ahead of a Thursday Night Football matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Prime Video.
