2 NBA Hall Of Famers Now Part Of Buffalo Bills' Ownership
The Buffalo Bills revealed NBA royalty among their new investors.
On Wednesday, the Bills announced 10 new partners to their ownership group. It's the first time the NFL organization has ever added new minority owners.
The list includes a pair of Basketball Hall of Famers in Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady. Both NBA superstars played a bit north of Orchard Park for the Toronto Raptors.
Carter concluded his 22-season career in 2020 with 25,728 career points, 21st on the all-time NBA leaderboard. The eight-time All-Star averaged 23.4 points per game over seven seasons with the Raptors and played for seven other teams.
"It's a huge honor to join this historic Bills organization," Carter said in a statement. "I'm truly thankful the Pegula family has given me the opportunity to help the franchise continue to grow and thrive in player growth, community service, and of course, winning the Lombardi Trophy. See you soon Bills Mafia!"
McGrady began his 15-year career in Toronto a year before his cousin. He transformed into a superstar on the Orlando Magic, registering 28.1 points and 7.0 rebounds across four seasons with a league-leading 32.1 points per game in 2003-04.
The 45-year-old called it a "dream come true" to join the Bills ownership group.
"Sports have been a lifelong passion, and the chance to contribute to such a top-tier organization is a true honor," McGrady said.
Carter and McGrady aren't the only star athletes in the new ownership group. Former MLS champion Jozy Altidor is also investing in the NFL franchise.
The limited partners additionally include the Arctos investing firm and several investment capital managing partners.
"This has been an incredible journey to add such an impressive and diverse group of limited partners along with a reputable private equity partner in Arctos that has an extensive track record of success with professional sports franchises," Bills Owner/CEO Terry Pegula said in the team's statement. "They all have all achieved high levels of success in their respective industries and we're grateful for their interest in our team, our sport, and the future of the Buffalo Bills."
