Surprising Rookie QB Already Receiving First Team Practice Reps

Many were skeptical of the Buffalo Bills' selection of Josh Allen with the seventh pick of the 2018 NFL Draft. However, there's a chance we see him early this year.

Based on early Bills practices, Allen will be in the mix for the starting job.

Former Cincinnati Bengal AJ McCarron appears to be in the driver's seat for the starting job. Nate Peterman, who had one infamous start last season, is also there.

Allen had one really terrible pass that made the rounds online earlier. However, he also reportedly got in with the first team.

Josh Allen might have opened Buffalo Bills training camp as the No. 3 quarterback, but he will get every opportunity to win the starting job.

To that end, the Bills are already giving the rookie reps with the first-team unit. It took all of two practices for Allen to take snaps with the starters on Friday.

Coach Sean McDermott confirmed to reporters on Saturday that all three quarterbacks -- Allen, AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman -- will rotate regularly with the first-team unit for the foreseeable future.

Allen was chosen after the Browns selected Baker Mayfield first overall, and the Jets went with Sam Darnold third.

The Browns have committed to Tyrod Taylor to start the season. Darnold is in a battle with veterans Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater.

Josh Rosen could also be in contention with the Arizona Cardinals. It's a pretty talented crop of first rounder quarterbacks, but Allen starting for the Bills after being seen as a project at quarterback would be pretty surprising.
