Cam Newton can't be feeling too good this morning.
Part of that surely has to do with his Carolina Panthers falling in the season opener to the Denver Broncos, 21-20, but most of it is probably based on his body.
The reigning NFL MVP got absolutely lit up by the Broncos' defense on Thursday night.
Newton took a ton of hits directly to the head, like this one.
There were multiple hits like that to Newton's head, many of which went uncalled by the referees.
Newton kept his cool post-game, though.
"It's not my job to question the officials," Newton said. "I really like this officiating crew. So it wasn't something that I know they did intentionally, but it's not fun getting hit in the head."
He added: "I try to warn the refs every time I do get hit in the head, but if the flag is not called, then it's okay."
Newton's tight end, Greg Olsen, went a different way.
The NFL needs to get better at both the calls on the field and their concussion protocol.
