Rob Gronkowski opened up about his decision to retire from the NFL and the pain he's dealt with over the years while announcing his new partnership with a CBD brand.
"I want to be clear to my fans. I needed to recover. I was not in a good place. Football was bringing me down, and I didn't like it. I was losing that joy in life," Gronkowski said while fighting back tears.
The legendary tight end revealed how painful his recovery from the Patriots' win over the Rams in Super Bowl LIII was.
"I got done with the game and I could barely walk," Gronk said. "I slept five minutes that night. I couldn't even think. I was in tears in my bed after a Super Bowl victory. It didn't make that much sense to me. And then, for four weeks, I couldn't even sleep for more than 20 minutes a night. I was like, 'Damn, this sucks.' It didn't feel good."
Gronkowski, 30, has received an outpouring of support following today's comments.
No one is prouder than his girlfriend, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Camille Kostek.
"He took on this morning press announcement with confidence, truth, grace and mixed in his one of a kind humor," Kostek wrote. "I couldn't be more proud and excited to learn and watch him evolve as he transitions to new levels mentally, physically and spiritually."
Gronkowski, meanwhile, didn't completely shut the door on a return to the NFL, but he made it clear that he's not considering it anytime soon.
