UPDATE: Ron Rivera revealed Newton is in a walking boot.

On Thursday night, the Carolina Panthers faced off against the New England Patriots in the third preseason contest for both teams. During the game, Cam Newton saw action with the starters as he attempts to rediscover the magic of his MVP season. Newton completed 4-of-6 passes for 30 yards on the night. He took two sacks from the Patriots, and the last one seems to have resulted in an injury. As he attempted to escape the rush, Newton evaded a few defenders before getting tackled behind the line of scrimmage. After the play, he left the game with what the Panthers are calling a foot injury. Check it out.

The former Auburn star won't return to the game, according to a statement from the team.

Panthers fans have to hope the team is just taking every precaution with their star quarterback. Newton has been bitten by the injury bug several times during his NFL career - natural for a player who runs as much as he does.

Last year, Newton missed the final few games of the season as he dealt with a shoulder injury.

After surgery this offseason, Newton reportedly re-worked his throwing motion to combat the injury.
