Caleb Williams Was Asked About Being Compared To Patrick Mahomes
As the top prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft, USC quarterback Caleb Williams is being compared to three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes. While that's obviously a ton of pressure to place on any quarterback, Williams is taking it in stride.
Appearing on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Williams was asked to give his thoughts on the comparisons to the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback. Williams said that he sees it as a sign of the respect others have for him and maintains that he feels he has all of the same physical abilities of Mahomes - even if he doesn't have Mahomes' brain.
"I've said this multiple times: I just think of it as respect," Williams said. "Everybody gets crazy when I say that the things that he does - and I'm not Patrick Mahomes, obviously - that there's nothing I can't do. So I call it respect and hopefully I'll get to see him, go against him and get a good battle between him."
Williams won the Heisman Trophy with the USC Trojans in 2022 and by many accounts could have been the top quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft if he were eligible. His last year in college was nothing to write home about, but didn't hurt his draft stock that much.
The Chicago Bears have been widely tipped to draft Williams since the end of the regular season and recently paved the way for him to not only join the team, but start on Day 1 with the team having traded former starter Justin Fields last week.
Will Williams prove worthy of the Patrick Mahomes comparisons? Will he even prove worthy of being the No. 1 overall pick?
