NFL Fans React To Chicago Bears Interviewing College Head Coach
The NFL playoffs begin this weekend, but the offseason is underway for the teams that weren't able to qualify this year. Some of those teams are looking for new head coaches, including the Chicago Bears.
The Bears fired Matt Eberflus after an embarrassing loss on Thanksgiving Day to the Detroit Lions, and they're now looking for a new permanent head coach following their 5-12 finish.
Chicago is interviewing candidates, and Chicago Tribune reporter Brad Biggs says they're expected to speak with Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell.
Fans on social media are reacting to the Bears considering a college head coach for their current opening.
"How about the Bears go after someone with a credible resume in the NFL?," one fan asked.
"If the Bears make this hire, I will legitimately become a Packers fan," said another fan.
"What a clown show they are conducting at Halas Hall. F the Bears," said one fan.
"The Bears are absolutely not dedicated to building a winning program. For the fans, I sincerely hope I’m proven wrong, y’all don’t deserve this," another fan added.
"Bears: hire a coach Campbell it worked for the Lions. Staff: Not every Campbell is Dan...Bears: I said HIRE CAMPBELL!," another fan said, referencing the head coach of an NFC North rival, the Detroit Lions.
"This will be a home run hire! Offensive guy✅ Great leadership✅ Winner✅ He has won a ton of games between Toledo and Iowa state," said one fan, offering a more positive perspective on the potential hire.
"Well this has Fred Hoiberg written all over it. I sure as hell hope this does not happen," said another fan, referencing another former Iowa State head coach who went on to coach the Chicago Bulls.
Campbell has been the head coach at Iowa State since 2016, and has won 99 games in his coaching career. He's been the Big 12's coach of the year three times, and led Iowa State to an 11-3 season in 2024.
The Bears are considering several candidates for the head coaching job, and it appears that they will exhaust all options before making a final decision this offseason.
