Joe Burrow told reporters this week that he has already discussed a contract extension with the Bengals.

"I'm involved. That's in the works," Burrow said. "That's not really something that I like to play out in the media. Just the way I think they want to do business, I want to do business, we prefer to keep that between us.

"I'm pretty clear on what I want in the contract and what I think is best for myself and the team. So we're on the road to making that happen. Whenever you have guys on the team that need to be paid, that's always on your mind. You want that to be a focal point, so we're working to make that happen."

The last two lines from Burrow hint at him being aware of what a huge contract could do to Cincinnati's roster.

During an appearance on "Up & Adams," former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski shared his thoughts on Burrow's contract situation. He believes the former No. 1 pick should go the Tom Brady route and take a slight pay cut.

"What's the difference between $47m and $53m when the next guy in your team is only getting paid in the $20m range? There's already that big of a difference between your pay and the next guys pay on your team," Gronkowski said. "So who cares? If you want a team around you then take a couple million dollars less which is nothing in the grand scheme for a quarterback. So I'm waiting for a quarterback to do that and kind of go down the Brady route."

Some fans agree with Gronkowski that Burrow should consider taking just a little bit less to help out the front office. On the flip side, there are plenty of people who think Burrow should demand as much money as he can get.

"And THAT is the problem with salary caps in a league that generates billions..You try to rationalize a guy who has a small window to make majority of his life’s earnings to take a pay cut smh," one fan tweeted.

"Burrow should be top 3 paid QB in the NFL. Nothing less," another fan said.

Burrow has taken the Bengals to the AFC Championship Game in back-to-back seasons. His value to the franchise is immeasurable.

And yet, it wouldn't surprise us if Burrow takes a pay cut.
