Earlier today, the Cleveland Browns ruled Josh Gordon out for Sunday's game at the New Orleans Saints. He has been dealing with a minor hamstring injury.

Now, he will be off the team entirely.

Moments ago, the Browns announced that Josh Gordon will be released on Monday.

It is unclear what led to the decision. General manager John Dorsey put out a pretty ominous statement regarding the decision.

“This afternoon we informed Josh Gordon and his representatives that we are going to release him on Monday. For the past six years, the Browns have fully supported and invested in Josh, both personally and professionally and wanted the best for him, but unfortunately we’ve reached a point where we feel it’s best to part ways and move forward. We wish Josh well.”

Ian Rapoport reports that Gordon was late to the Browns' facility today. It is unclear how much of a role that had in the decision.

Gordon had been out of football for much of the last three seasons.

In 2015, he served a drug suspension. In 2016, he was in rehab.

He returned late last year to catch 18 passes for 335 yards and a touchdown in five games. In the Browns' Week 1 tie of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he caught one pass—the 17-yard touchdown that tied the game at 21.

Hopefully Gordon can continue turning things around and latch on with another team. He's a tremendous talent.
