Colin Kaepernick Wrote Letter To Jets Asking To Be Member Of Practice Squad
Colin Kaepernick recently pitched the New York Jets on joining their practice squad.
The rapper J. Cole released a letter Kaepernick sent to Jets general manager Joe Douglas last Thursday. Cole said he wanted everyone to "know the truth about how hard he works and how much he still wants to play," and Kaepernick gave him permission to share it.
"I would be honored and extremely grateful for the opportunity to come in and lead the practice squad," Kaepernick wrote. "I would do this with the sole mission of getting your defense ready every week."
Kaepernick argued that he could help the Jets prepare for a recent string of athletic quarterbacks on their schedule (Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, and Jalen Hurts). He added that it'd give the organization a chance to see "where I'm at football wise" without competing for Zach Wilson's job.
"In a perfect world for the Jets, Zach Wilson finds his stride and shows that he is able to lead this championship-caliber team that you've put together to the Super Bowl," he wrote. "I believe a confident Zach Wilson has the tools to do this. However, in the event that this is not the case, I would love to offer you a risk-free contingency plan."
Kaepernick also insisted that his rigorous training schedule hasn't changed throughout his six years out of the NFL. The former Super Bowl starter has remained unsigned after protesting racial inequality and police brutality during the national anthem.
However, it doesn't appear the Jets embraced this appeal. They reportedly signed Trevor Siemian on Tuesday.
