Breaking: The Cowboys Have Made A Change At Kicker

The Dallas Cowboys seem intent on riding with their current coaching staff through the end of the season. But there is one big change that's coming to the final few weeks of the season.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys are cutting struggling kicker Brett Maher. The team will reportedly sign free agent Kai Forbath to replace him.

In all fairness, the Cowboys have pretty much reached a point of no return with Maher. The Cowboys are currently on a three-game losing streak, during which Maher has missed four of his last eight field goal attempts.

All of those missed field goals could have altered the outcome of the games had they been good.

Despite being a perfect 36-for-36 on extra points this season - an increasingly-rare stat - his 10 missed field goals are among the most in the league.

Brett Maher has one of the strongest legs in football, which he demonstrated by converted kicks of 62 and 63 yards. But going 20-of-30 is something that just can't happen in today's NFL.

As for Forbath, the veteran kicker is coming off a one-week stint with the New England Patriots, during which he made his only field goal attempt but missed one of two extra points.

The Cowboys are entering a crucial stretch of games against the Rams, Eagles and Redskins. They'll need to hope that Kai Forbath can at least be an improvement on Maher as they make their playoff push.
