Cowboys Have Reportedly Lost 2 Players To Season-Ending Injuries
Losing players to injury in the preseason is something every NFL team wants to avoid. Unfortunately, it's impossible to do sometimes.
This is one of those times for the Dallas Cowboys. Rookie linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and first-year linebacker John Stephens each tore their left ACL during Saturday night's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.
As a result, they will miss the entire 2023 season.
Overshown, a third-round pick out of Texas, injured his knee in the first quarter making a tackle. He left the field and did not return.
The first-team All-Big 12 performer had made a strong impression on his new team during the offseason and training camp.
"He was climbing. He was climbing the charts," Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy said following Saturday's game. "He showed up right away in the offseason program, just his ability to fly around. Really has excellent command. So just hopeful. See how tomorrow goes."
Stephens, meanwhile, an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana, had also caught the attention of the staff this summer.
He caught five passes for 56 yards and a touchdown in Dallas' first preseason game and made one reception for six yards last night before getting injured.
The Cowboys conclude their preseason slate against the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday.
