Former Cowboys Star Thinks Jerry Jones Should've Fired Mike McCarthy

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had a lot to say on his weekly radio spot today and one thing he said has a former member of the Cowboys thinking that it's long-past time to fire head coach Mike McCarthy.

According to Cowboys insider Clarence Hill Jr., Jones said some things about McCarthy on today's show that suggested that McCarthy can't design plays or offensive concepts well. Former All-Pro wide receiver Dez Bryant saw Hill's post on X and mused that Jones probably should have fired McCarthy after last year's playoff disappointment and instead promoted then-defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to head coach. He believes that "old ways" don't fit the "new age of football.

"Should have kept Dan Quinn and made him the head coach," Bryant wrote on X. "These old ways is no longer in style for this new age of football."

Fans in the comments believe Bryant might be onto something here:

"Mike McCarthy playbook is ancient," one user replied.

"Absolutely," wrote another.

Others disagreed, pointing out that Quinn's defense folded in the postseason and the team might be in no better position to reach the Super Bowl with him as the head coach than McCarthy is:

"How do you promote DQ after his defense bent over for GB in the playoffs though?" one user pointed out.

"I’m sorry but is Dan Quinn much better than Mike. Washington has beat up on the bad teams but lose to the good teams… EXACTLY what Dallas has done under Mike. Did we forget what his defense looked like in the playoffs last year? Mike won 12 games 3 years in a row," another mused.

Even so, the consensus seems to be that McCarthy needs to go. Whether he should have been replaced with Quinn or will be replaced by someone else remains to be seen.

Will McCarthy be fired after this season?
