Many New York Giants fans–including the writer of this piece, full disclosure–were not happy when the team selected Duke’s Daniel Jones with the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s draft.
Well, if the rookie’s first preseason drive is any indication, those angry fans might be eating their words (or boos). Jones looked sharp in his first go around against the New York Jets.
Taking over for Eli Manning on the second drive of the game, Jones went 5-for-5 for 67 yards, moving the Giants downfield. He culminated the march with a 17-yard touchdown toss to Bennie Fowler.
Here’s the touchdown.

Look, preseason doesn’t mean anything, especially not the first game. But there were some things to like about Jones.
He looked pretty calm and got the ball out on time. He was accurate with his throws as well.
When he does take over for Manning as the full-time starter, he’ll have plenty of struggles. However, now fans can have some hope for the future as well.
