Dave Portnoy's $362,000 NFL Bet Blows Up In Spectacular Fashion
When you bet big on sports the way Dave Portnoy does, sometimes you're going to have brutal losses to go with the exhilarating wins.
You might remember Portnoy, who is a University of Michigan alum, winning a $1 million bet on his alma mater in the Rose Bowl roughly one year ago. The Barstool Sports founder was in his glory that day, but on Sunday night, Portnoy was left on his knees (literally) as he saw a potential $362,000 win go down the drain.
Portnoy placed a $10,000 parlay bet on DraftKings Sunday, with a potential payout of $362,900. The legs of the parlay consisted of Eagles quarterback Kenny Pickett scoring a touchdown rushing or receiving (+425), Colts running back Jonathan Taylor scoring two touchdowns (+280) and Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. scoring a touchdown (-115).
The first two bets hit in the afternoon, leaving Portnoy to wait it out until Robinson played on Sunday Night Football.
Unfortunately, Robinson didn't find the end zone, with the Commanders actually giving backup Chris Rodriguez a goal line carry early in the fourth quarter, which Rodriguez turned into a two-yard touchdown.
Later, Robinson was tackled for a loss on a carry from the 1-yard line, with Portnoy sharing video of himself watching the disappointment unfold.
“This guy had five f-----g carries the whole season,” Portnoy said of Rodriguez, who actually entered the game with only 30 rushing attempts.
“Robinson’s perfectly f-----g healthy, smiling on the sidelines. And we’re giving it to this f-----g guy?" he continued. "I want a federal investigation. I want everyone in Washington investigated. I want DraftKings investigated. I want Robinson investigated. I want everyone with a f-----g pulse, penthouse, outhouse, parkhouse. What the f--k was that? That guy has not touched the ball the whole f-----g season. I need Brian Robinson Jr. to score a touchdown for basically, f-----g $400 grand, and he’s on the sidelines yucking it up?”
Thankfully, Portnoy only lost 10 grand, which isn't much for someone of his financial stature.
Still, seeing such a large payday come up just a yard short had to be agonizing.
