Deebo Samuel frightened San Francisco 49ers fans by briefly exiting Thursday's 30-12 win over the New York Giants.

The star wide receiver went into the medical tent after a second-half catch, but he returned to put an exclamation point on the Week 3 victory with a 27-yard touchdown catch. Samuel explained what happened after the game.

"I actually fell on the ball, and I thought it was my ribs," Samuel said, per 95.7 The Game (h/t 49ers Web Zone). "I think the wind got knocked out of me. But after going in the tent and everything, checked out fine. I was good."

With Brandon Aiyuk sidelined, Samuel stepped up by catching six of 12 targets for 129 yards. He eluded multiple Giants defenders on a 40-yard play early in the third quarter.

The 27-year-old has opened the season with 295 total yards and two touchdowns for the 49ers, who scored 30 points in each of their three victories. Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, and George Kittle have powered an explosive offense averaging 399 yards per game.

Although Samuel doesn't sound concerned by the injury, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he'll likely receive X-rays.

"It was good that he came back in," Shanahan told reporters. He came back in, which usually means you're hoping it's positive. But I know he's sore right now, and we'll have to check that out."

Samuel has over a week to recover before the 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday.
