Jake Rudock "Way Ahead" Of Rookie Brad Kaaya For Lions' No. 2 Quarterback Job
Detroit Lions rookie Brad Kaaya may not be ready to be the main back-up to Matt Stafford, thanks in part to second-year pro Jake Rudock.
Rudock was not the flashiest college quarterback during his time at Iowa and Michigan, and was not as big a name as Kaaya was at Miami, but he seems to be impressing the Lions staff.
He was drafted in the sixth round by the franchise last year after a strong pro day, and cracked the active roster in November.
Kaaya may wind up being the better pro, but right now he hasn't caught Rudock, who has the advantage of a year in the pros.

Fast forward one year and Brad Kaaya is learning the same lesson. Rudock’s experience and knowledge of Jim Bob Cooter’s scheme is light years ahead of Kaaya’s right now, and that’s shown on the field in minicamp.
Rudock appears to have clearly established himself as the No. 2 quarterback heading into training camp.
Rudock was the No. 191 overall player in the 2016 draft after spending a grad transfer year at Michigan, starting for Jim Harbaugh's first Wolverines team. Kaaya was the No. 215 pick in 2017, after three years starting at Miami. Last season, he threw for 3,532, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
