On Tuesday, wide receiver Marvin Jones announced that he was stepping away from the Lions to focus on "personal family matters." He shared this announcement on social media.

"I just want to say that I have so much love and respect for the Ford family, the city of Detroit, my teammates and coaches. To be brief, I am stepping away from the team to take care of personal family matters," Jones wrote. "Although this was no easy decision, I cannot be the person/player that I need to be for this team as well as tend to my family from afar. This organization has been amazing showing love and support for myself and my family over the years and this time is no different. For that I am appreciative. To my brothers and coaches, I will be rooting for you every step of the way! This is the year! Go get it!!! Love and respect to ALL!"

Immediately after this announcement was made, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport revealed that Jones was released by the Lions. He said, "And now the Lions have released Marvin Jones."

That move didn't sit well with NFL fans.

"They ain’t have to do that," one fan wrote. "Messed up that they cut him."

Another fan said, "Hopefully everything is all good for him. Nothing but a class act and top notch guy."

"It was mutually agreed upon you know what you are doing with this wording," a fan replied to Rapoport.

According to multiple reports, Jones' release was a procedural move by the Lions. There's no bad blood between the two sides.

Jones was inactive for this past Sunday's game against the Ravens.
