Donald Trump Not A Fan Of This Year's Major NFL Rule Change
Former President Donald Trump was at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday night to watch the fourth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide outlast No. 2 Georgia.
Trump, who received a warm welcome from the fans in attendance, was at his first game in Tuscaloosa since 2019, when he saw Alabama face LSU. The 2024 Republican presidential nominee had also previously witnessed 'Bama and Georgia play in the national title game in person during his time in office.
During the night, Trump conducted an interview with OutKick's Clay Travis about a myriad of topics, mostly related to the upcoming election. He also touched on the environment last night, which led Trump to offer his opinion on the NFL's new dynamic kickoff rule.
Like many others, he's not a fan of it.
"Well, I've always heard the impression ‘big-time college football,’ and you know, the NFL is great, but we have 125,000 people here today, you have Herschel [Walker] standing right behind us...big-time college football, some people want to watch that as opposed to the NFL," Trump said.
"I don't know what they're doing with the kickoff return in the NFL. And I don't want to get involved in controversy, of course, but it looks so bad. And I noticed that they haven't done that in college, and they shouldn't do it. And I think the NFL should go back. And maybe it is a little bit more dangerous, but I doubt that it's any more dangerous. It's football."
Thus far, the "dynamic kickoff" seems to have mostly been a dud through three full weeks of play.
Perhaps as the season unfolds, it will bring about the desired increase in returns that the league hoped for, but that hasn't been the case to this point.
