The first two weeks of NFL free agency brought all of the chaos, big contracts and surprises that we could have hoped for. We saw a carousel of quarterback changes across the league, some XFL studs getting deals, and of course the finale to the Tom Brady drama.
But which teams look like the best in the NFL as we head into the month of April? One could argue that the Buccaneers were the winners among winners by inking Brady, while others could say the Panthers, Dolphins or Bills made the biggest rise up the rankings with their huge moves.
ESPN updated their NFL Power Rankings this morning and determined that not a whole lot has changed at the very top of the pecking order. The Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs retained their top spot by keeping everyone who was essential to their title last season under contract.
As for the rest of the top five, there was precious little movement among the cream of the crop.
Here are the five best NFL teams, per ESPN’s NFL Power Rankings:
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Baltimore Ravens
- San Francisco 49ers
- New Orleans Saints
- Green Bay Packers
Not a whole lot of surprises there. All of those teams had at least 12 wins in 2019, and all of them are retaining their core players.
Had the Saints not reached a new contract with QB Drew Brees, perhaps they might have fallen off the list. But with Brees positioned for yet another stellar year, the Saints will join the 49ers and Packers as early NFC favorites.
As for the AFC, it certainly looks like a two-horse race. The Chiefs only narrowly edge out the reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.
Are these the five best teams in the NFL right now?
