The NFL is back! Well, the preseason is at least.

With the preseason officially underway, the NFL debuted a new rule that is being heavily criticized. Much like college football's "targeting rule" the new NFL rule was highly controversial in its first game.

Of course, there will be growing pains as referees try to police the game differently. However, Saturday afternoon showed us that defense will be more difficult to play than ever.

Here is a play that was flagged as per the new rule.

A.J. Bouye lowered his helmet to take on the running back, but was called for a penalty on the play.

The new rule has caused quite a stir within the NFL for both players on the team and fans of the teams. As the NFL works to implement the new rule it will do so while being criticized for the controversial nature of the penalty calls.
