On Wednesday afternoon the Canadian Football League announced the Toronto Argonauts signed a new player. Why is that news?
Well, the player’s name is making headlines as those on social media joke about the team’s newest addition. Former Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive lineman Cory “Poop” Johnson brought out the second-grader in all of us on Wednesday when he was announced as the newest addition to the Argonauts.
Yes, his nickname is Poop. The former Kentucky Wildcats defensive lineman grew to fame in college – thanks to his nickname of course.
Here’s the announcement from the league.

So, how does one acquire the nickname Poop?
Well, according to a 2014 article from Deadspin, Johnson said he received the nickname due to how much he uses the bathroom. According to Johnson, he struggled to keep weight on during college because he “poops so much.”
“I poop so much. I try to poop like five times a day, three times a day, so it’s hard to keep weight when you have so much going out,” Johnson said in the interview.
There’s nothing quite like tracking down the origin of a player’s nickname. Usually they stem from childhood, but every now and then you get a classic like this.
