The Atlanta Falcons' kicking situation doesn't seem to have been remedied. Newly-signed veteran Blair Walsh reportedly had a miserable day at practice Tuesday.
Walsh was brought in over the weekend to compete with Giorgio Tavecchio, who has himself had some struggles this summer. Tavecchio is just 4-of-8 on field goals in preseason game action.
According to Falcons beat writer D. Orlando Ledbetter, Walsh connected on just 5-of-9 field goals during today's practice session.
Despite the shaky performance today, Walsh received support from Atlanta head coach Dan Quinn, who urged fans not to read too much into it.
Walsh, a Georgia alum, was a Pro Bowler and All-Pro selection as a rookie with the Minnesota Vikings in 2012. His play slipped over the next two seasons but rebounded in 2015.
However, in the NFC Wild Card game against the Seattle Seahawks following the 2015 season, Walsh missed a potential game-winning chip shot wide left. Since then, his career has fallen off.
He missed four field goals and four extra points in nine games with Minnesota in 2016 before being released. He then missed eight field goals in 2017 while playing with Seattle.
Walsh did not play in the NFL last season. Both he and Tavecchio will kick in Atlanta's preseason finale on Thursday.
