As a player and as a coach, Steve Spurrier has offered some pretty incredible moments to football fans. But he may have saved his funniest moments for his current stint with the Orlando Apollos in the Alliance of American Football.
During Sunday's game against the San Antonio Commanders, Spurrier appeared very dissatisfied with the officiating on the field. So when the officials called a holding penalty against San Antonio, Spurrier was heard very loudly saying, "About time they finally called it!"
The remark was loud enough to be heard in the CBS Sports Network booth, and got a chuckle out of the announce team. He was then heard following up his remark with, "They've been doing it every play!"
At halftime, Spurrier's Apollos trailed the Commanders 18-17.
Despite only four rushing yards in the first half and only 23 plays run, Orlando's passing attack is letting them keep the game close against the Commanders.
Last week Spurrier led the Apollos to a 40-6 opening-day win over the Atlanta Legends. Quarterback Garrett Gilbert had two touchdown passes and caught a touchdown pass from wide receiver Jalin Marshall in the win.
Spurrier remains the face of the Orlando Apollos, just as he has been at just about everyone of his stops in his legendary coaching career.
