Former 49ers Player Died Over Christmas At 67
A former San Francisco 49ers player tragically passed away over Christmas at 67 years old.
The San Francisco 49ers are mourning the loss of a former linebacker this week. The 49ers announced that former San Francisco linebacker Thomas Seabron Jr. had died over the holiday. He was 67 years old.
San Francisco, which is having a tough 2024 season, announced the tragic news on social media.
"The 49ers mourn the passing of former LB Thomas Seabron. Our entire organization sends its deepest condolences to the Seabron family and friends," the team announced.
Seabron played collegiately at the University of Michigan between 1975 and 1978. He played multiple positions for the Wolverines, including linebacker, tight end and defensive lineman. He went on to play in the National Football League.
The former Michigan standout was a fifth round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1979 NFL Draft. He was released after one season and joined the then-St. Louis Cardinals. He was ultimately released by the franchise in 1981.
Seabron, who was from Detroit, Michigan, ended up having a career in finance. He is perhaps best known for managing a church scholarship endowment, growing it from $50,000 to nearly $1 million.
He was a vice president at Morgan Stanley and helped several people in his home state of Michigan.
“Tom told me that he was most proud of being able to help hard working individuals and families from our old neighborhood to manage their money in preparation for their retirement," a friend said.
The former 49ers player leaves behind his wife, Kathryn, and their two children, Aaron and Chelsea.
Our thoughts are with his friends and family members during this difficult time.
May he rest in peace.
