Earlier this week, the Denver Broncos agreed in principle to a trade with the Baltimore Ravens that would send quarterback Joe Flacco to Denver for a fourth-round pick. The trade won't become official until the new league year kicks in on March 13.
After the trade was reported by ESPN insider Adam Schefter, there was a healthy mix of reaction to the trade. Some believed it was a good trade for the Broncos - including current Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders.
However, there were some vehemently opposed to the idea of bringing in Flacco to turn the franchise around. Former Broncos star Elvis Dumervil had a visceral reaction to the trade news and trashed general manager John Elway for his decision to trade for Flacco.
In comments made to TMZ, Dumervil called the trade a "big gamble."
"It's a big gamble. Definitely desperate, no doubt ... It can be a great deal, or it can be another bad decision by John Elway. [Elway] did a genius move with Peyton Manning. But unfortunately, Joe Flacco is no Peyton Manning."
Clearly Dumervil isn't on board with the trade.
Meanwhile, from a Baltimore Ravens standpoint, the trade means the team is all-in on Lamar Jackson heading into his second year.
We'll have to wait and see how the trade plays out for Denver.
