The Green Bay Packers had a surprising season in 2023, earning a playoff spot and defeating the heavily-favored Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round.

Their season ended with a loss to the eventual NFC champion San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional round, and many pointed to one player as the reason they lost that game.

Rookie kicker Anders Carlson missed a kick that would have given Green Bay a commanding lead in that game, and the 49ers took advantage to come away with a three-point win.

The Packers have attempted to solve their kicker issues by bringing in a veteran to compete for the starting job.

According to his agent Brett Tessler, the Packers have signed veteran kicker Greg Joseph.

Joseph has kicked for several teams since joining the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2018. Since 2021, he has played for the Minnesota Vikings, making over 82% of his field goal attempts.

He also holds the record for the longest field goal in Vikings history at 61 yards, a feat he accomplished to win a game against the New York Giants late in the 2022 season.

Carlson missed 13 kicks in total last season, the most in the NFL. He was perfect from 20-39 yards, but struggled with longer field goals, making only half of his attempts from 40+ yards.

The Packers are looking to build on a strong 2023 season, and that includes improving in all three phases of the game.

Special teams were certainly an issue in Green Bay last season, and they're looking to solve some of their problems with a more steady presence at the kicker position.
