ESPN's Jeff Darlington: Packers Source Believes Aaron Rodgers Will Be Back In 2023
The NFL world is waiting for Aaron Rodgers to emerge from the darkness and reveal his playing future.
In the meantime, the speculation surrounding the four-time MVP continues. Rodgers has been linked to the New York Jets, who are reportedly waiting to hear what the longtime Packers star has planned before deciding what direction they want to go in at quarterback this offseason.
ESPN's Jeff Darlington disagrees with that approach. He thinks the Jets should start looking to pivot to Derek Carr, their other preferred QB.
Darlington said on ESPN this morning that his main reason for that line of thinking is a source claiming Rodgers will be back in Green Bay.
The source, Darlington says, "quite honestly" believes that Rodgers is sticking with the Packers and "all of this is being overhyped."
Carr visited the Jets last weekend and by all accounts, all parties enjoyed their time together.
ESPN's Dianna Russini reported Tuesday that the organization told Carr they feel he can be a "first ballot Hall of Famer" if he comes to New York.
Russini's report was the second reason Darlington used to support the Jets ignoring Rodgers and moving forward with Carr.
"You're potentially waiting on a guy in Aaron Rodgers who might or might not be available when you have a guy who was just in your building who you believe will be a Hall of Fame quarterback?" Darlington said. "What are you waiting for? Sign Derek Carr today."
