Former Heisman Trophy winning running back Herschel Walker has hinted at a potential future in the political arena over the past few years.
Earlier this summer, Walker posted a video of himself. His car sported a new feature: a Georgia license plate. After exiting the car he said in the video, “I’m getting ready. And we can run with the big dogs.”
Fans weren’t exactly sure what to make of the social media post. Some believed it was true and Walker would be running for political office. Others thought it was just another tease.
Well, on Tuesday afternoon, fans learned the true answer. According to Greg Bluestein of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the former star running back is running for United States Senate in Georgia.

From the AJC:
“Walker didn’t immediately comment, though he filed paperwork Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission establishing his candidacy and recently registered to vote in Georgia.”
Walker will reportedly announced his decision in the coming days. He’ll run against Democratic U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock.
In the past, Walker has been encouraged to run for office by many high profile politicians, including former President Donald Trump.
The star running back has plenty of fans from the state of Georgia. Can Walker find success in the political arena?
We’ll find out next year.
