Jonathan Taylor Injury Update: Colts Make Decision On Running Back For Week 5
The Indianapolis Colts are set to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in an AFC South matchup on Sunday. They won last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they're dealing with a few significant injury concerns ahead of Week 5.
Quarterback Anthony Richardson is questionable with a hip injury, a concerning sign after his injury issues as a rookie. We'll find out if the team feels he's healthy enough to suit up, or if Joe Flacco will step in as he did against Pittsburgh.
The Colts have another injured star on offense in running back Jonathan Taylor. Taylor is dealing with a high ankle sprain, and on Friday his head coach confirmed his status for the game against the Jaguars.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that Taylor will not play on Sunday, as he continues to deal with the sprain.
Taylor is off to a successful start to the season, rushing for 349 yards and four touchdowns in the first four games of the year. With Taylor out, the Colts will give Trey Sermon the start at running back.
Sermon, a former Ohio State star, will make the third start of his career on Sunday. He's rushed for one touchdown this season, and if his last start is any indication, he could be a positive for the Colts' offense.
Sermon started in Week 4 of the 2021 season, rushing for an impressive 89 yards on 19 attempts.
The Colts sit at 2-2, and Sunday's game could be an important divisional matchup as they look to keep up with the Houston Texans.
It's been a miserable start to the season for the Jaguars, as they're the final team without a win in the NFL. The Colts can improve to 3-2 if they're able to take down a struggling Jacksonville team, but they'll have to do it without one of their stars.
Richardson's status is still set to be finalized for Sunday, meaning that the Colts could be without their two best offensive players.
We'll see how they manage the adversity when they face Jacksonville on Sunday at 1 PM ET.
